Nine Nordic authors will come to Bucharest in the frame of GAUDEAMUS International Book Fair 2013, an event organized by Radio Romania.
The authors have been invited by the embassies of the countries that are guests of honor: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The five countries are participating at Gaudeamus 2013 under the slogan „Cool Nordic București”.
The president of honor of Gaudeamus 2013 is His Excellency Mr. Anders Bengtcén, Ambassador of Sweden in Romania. Two weeks prior to the opening of the fair he declared: “This year the Nordic countries will be honorary guests at the GAUDEAMUS Book Fair. It is an honor and a privilege for the Nordic countries to have this opportunity to present our literature to the Romanian audience.
The Nordic countries have a rich tradition of literature going back more than one thousand years when short concise tales and adventures were carved on stones by the Vikings. A few hundred years later the Icelandic sagas emerged as written literature. Eventually the Finnish Kalevala epic poetry based on oral tradition became part of the Nordic treasure of stories and tales that have captured the interest of readers from far outside the Nordic countries.
Today Nordic literature, in particular Nordic crime novels, is attracting large audiences across the world. At the GAUDEAMUS Book Fair, nine Nordic authors who have been translated into Romanian will present and discuss their works. With the cooperation of the Nordic Council of Ministers, other aspects of Nordic literature, e g promotion of literature among children and literature for children will be discussed at seminars during the fair. Presentations will also be made of other dimensions of Nordic culture, including film.
At this edition of Gaudeamus book fair, literature lovers will have the opportunity to meet with Icelandic writer Yrsa Sigudardottir, Swedish authors Jan Wallentin, Anders Roslund and Borge Hellström, Danes Anders Rønnow Klarlund and Jacob Weinreich, who sign under the pseudonym A. J. Kazinski, the Finns Salla Simukka and Antti Tuomainen. The books of these eight guests are published by Editura Trei. The Norwegian author Kjersti Annesdatter Skomsvold, whose books are published by Editura All, will also be present.
The five countries participating to Gaudeamus under the the slogan “Cool Nordic București” will present jointly the Nordic literature to the Romanian public, from the 20th to 24th of November.
The common stand of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden is located in the Central Pavilion of Romexpo, 0.00 level, position number 3 on the map of the fair. The common stand includes a large bookcase where several books written by Nordic authors that have been translated into Romanian will be displayed. The stand will also accommodate a large number of book launches, conferences and seminars.
